Theme: Crescent - In art and symbolism, a crescent is generally the shape produced when a circular disk has a segment of another circle removed from its edge, so that what remains is a shape enclosed by two circular arcs of different diameters which intersect at two points (usually in such a manner that the enclosed shape does not include the center of the original circle).

The crescent is one of the oldest symbols known to humanity. Together with the sun, it appeared on Akkadian seals as early as 2300 BC. The crescent was well known in the Middle East and was transplanted by the Phoenicians in the 8th century BC as far as Carthage (now in Tunisia). The crestent and star also appears on pre-Islamic coins of South Arabia.

In the 12th century the crescent and star was adopted by the Turks and since then the crescent, often accompanied by a Star and mentioned in the 53rd surah (chapter) of the Qur'an, has been a symbol of Islam since. It is, in fact, a historical symbol of the Turks, associated especially with the Ottoman Empire, but also pre-Islamic Turkic nations such as the Göktürks used the crescent and star figure on their coins.

The crescent moon is also a symbol associated with the Hindu's iconography: with the deity Shiva, who wears it at the top of his matted hair.

The crescent is also used as a heraldic symbol. However, this usage is not affiliated in any way with Islam. The roots of the Slavic crescent can be traced to the old Slavic pagan beliefs. In English and Canadian heraldry a crescent is the cadence mark of a second son.

Extra information: Natural Fancy Colored Diamonds - A chemically pure and structurally perfect diamond is perfectly transparent with no hue, or color. However, in reality almost no gem-sized natural diamonds are absolutely perfect. The color of a diamond may be affected by chemical impurities and/or structural defects in the crystal lattice. Depending on the hue and intensity of a diamond's coloration, a diamond's color can either detract from or enhance its value. For example, most white diamonds are discounted in price when more yellow hue is detectable, while intense pink or blue diamonds (such as the Hope Diamond) can be dramatically more valuable.

Diamonds occur in a variety of colors — steel gray, white, blue, yellow, orange, red, green, pink to purple, brown, and black, virtually in every color of the rainbow.

The colored diamond grading system refers to the color grading system used by internationally recognized laboratories (GIA and IGI for example) for colors that are not in the normal color range of diamonds. These laboratories use a list of 27 color hues that span the full spectrum of colors. The tone and saturation of these hues are then described with one of nine descriptors: Faint, Very Light, Light, Fancy Light, Fancy, Fancy Dark, Fancy Intense, Fancy Deep and Fancy Vivid.
