Ciselé

Ciselé (French). A style of decoration of metal that embraces both engraving and chasing done on the same article, although it has been said that it was done with a non-cutting tool called a ciselet (a chisel).

The outstanding exponent of such work was a Frenchman, Gérard Débèche, during the early Louis XV period; but the names of many noted later French ciseleurs are recorded, e.g. Jules Chaise (1807-70) and Honoré-Séverin Bourdoncle (1823-93).
