The process of making a complete relief pattern on metal by pressure in a die made from a master model.
A flat sheet of metal is enclosed in the two-part die and the pattern is made on it by the application of pressure, either by a heavy blow or gradually tightening with a winch. The process permits the mass production of objects, such as coins, medal, etc. It is a modern adaptation of the process of manual stamping, and is sometimes called 'die striking'.
