A type of head ornament in the form of a narrow band worn to encircle the hair. Fillers, worn by Greek, Etruscan, and Roman men and women, were often made of gold in the form of wreaths of ivy, oak or myrtle leaves. In the medieval period, fillets were in the form of ribbons but later were bands of hinged pieces of gold.
